HR Tech by the Numbers: $108 Million in Funding, a Stagnant Labor Market, and Poland's Data Chaos
September opens with a solid dose of numbers for the HR tech industry: investors keep betting on AI, the US labor market is searching for a new equilibrium, and Polish HR departments are still fighting scattered systems. We take a look at what these three stories tell us about the direction the whole industry is heading.
01 · Investments
August Under the Sign of AI: $108 Million for Seven HR Tech Startups
Let's start with the money, since it best shows where the industry sees its future. According to the monthly roundup of funding rounds for August 2026, seven HR tech companies raised a combined total of around $108 million [1]. The list includes Flash, an employee benefits platform that closed a Series D round, Yardstik, which specializes in candidate background checks and secured Series B funding, Flip, which builds tools for frontline employee experience, and Japan's HERP, developing recruitment technology [1]. The report's authors note that artificial intelligence remains the main magnet pulling in capital across the entire HR tech ecosystem [1]. In other words, whether we're talking about benefits, recruitment, or background checks, investors today are looking above all for AI-powered solutions.
02 · Labor Market
The US Labor Market: A Return to "Normal," but Tech Still Cautious
These investments, however, don't happen in a vacuum — it's worth comparing them with the state of the actual labor market. The monthly Indeed Hiring Lab report shows that in August 2026 the number of US job postings rose slightly, with the Job Postings Index holding just above its pre-pandemic baseline at 101.8 points as of August 14 [2]. That's a signal of some stabilization, but not euphoria. The picture looks markedly different in software development, where job postings remain well below baseline, at 74.4 points [2], suggesting that tech employers are still approaching hiring with considerable caution. For the HR tech industry, this is an important barometer — US data has for years served as a reference point for global recruitment trends, including outside the American market [2]. If even the tech sector is pumping the brakes on hiring, tools that help companies recruit smarter, not just faster, are gaining in importance.
03 · Data Integration
Polish HR: Caught Between Excel and Information Chaos
And how does it look closer to home? Here the picture is less optimistic. An expert article prepared by Worksmile, authored by Anna Majkowska, CEO of NowoczesnyHR, describes the everyday reality of many Polish HR departments juggling several disconnected tools at once [3]. Absence data lives in one place, benefits information in another, employee survey results somewhere else again, on top of documents and communication scattered across various channels [3]. The piece argues that this kind of data fragmentation genuinely makes it harder for HR to regain control over information and, as a result, to use analytics effectively in decision-making [3]. It's a very apt summary of a problem that has dogged Polish HR departments for years and that happens to be one of the guiding themes of our trade fair: HR data integration is no longer a matter of convenience, but a precondition for HR to operate strategically instead of just putting out today's fires.
Summary
Summary
These three stories, though they concern different markets, add up to a coherent picture: capital is flowing into AI solutions, labor demand is stabilizing, but cautiously, and Polish companies are still grappling with a fundamental problem — scattered, disconnected HR systems.
